Boland College, a rural college, has five campuses: Caledon, Paarl, Stellenbosch, Strand, and Worcester, with its headquarters in Stellenbosch.

Prior to the merger, four of these campuses were independent, competing colleges, each with a long and proud tradition of quality education and results, as well as some autonomy.

The consolidation process was completed in 2001, and a fifth campus in Caledon opened in January 2002.

As part of its transformation policy for technical colleges in the Western Cape, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) transformed the 15 existing colleges at the time into six mega Further Education and Training (FET) Colleges in 1998.

Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges have since replaced Further Education and Training colleges under the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).

Three of these colleges are in Cape Town, while the other three are in rural areas.
